“Is it real?” “Is it dyed?” There are common questions junior Lauren Somerville is asked all the time. “Crazy” is one word Somerville uses to describe her hair. When naturally curled, her hair is reddish- brown and shoulder length.

To style her hair, she uses Crème to help it stay healthy, “I needed to stop getting relaxers because they damaged my hair and made it difficult to grow.” She uses Ms. Jessie’s Curly Moisturizer, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and Crème Brule to keep her curls and color beautiful.

Faintly Masculine on YouTube inspired her to go natural. Her future plans for her hair is to keep growing it out, while straightening it every so often. Somerville is African American and feels it is why she has loosely-textured hair.

Her tip for anyone wanting different hair is, “do not be afraid to stand out; it is good not to look like everyone else.”
